New Dive Program Guidelines
By G.H. Vaughn
Training Director

The new training process is a significant change from what has been done in the past. The actual training, however, has not changed. Compressing the classroom and confined water work into two days requires that the student perform almost all of the normal classroom work BEFORE coming to the Saturday session.

At registration, the student will receive and fill out all of the pre-class paperwork. If the student cannot complete the short medical form and requires a doctor's approval, this document must be presented with doctor's approval at the beginning of the Saturday session before they will be allowed to particpate.

The student will also receive a textbook, DVD, packet of knowledge reviews, and other documents. The student must complete all five modules in the textbook, and the DVD, and must have the knowledge review sections completed and signed by the beginning of the Saturday session. ALL of this material must be done individually, and the student must have an understanding of what they have covered, because there will be a final exam. A minimum grade of 75 percent is required.

After the exam has been graded and corrected, we will start the Confined Water work. A total of five confined water exercises must be accomplished on Saturday and Sunday. There is no time in the schedule for make-up. Because of the time to be spent in the pool, it is recommended that the student have a 3-mil shorty wet suit. This will be discussed more during orientation/registration, along with the other personal equipment that the student must provide. The student will not be allowed to participate in the open water check-out dives if any of the paperwork is incomplete, or if satisfactory grades have not been achieved on the quizzes and final exam.

Please address any questions you have before Orientation/Registration to the TDC Registrar.
