Master Diver Class Now Forming
|
|
Brian Schmidt and Don Dapkus are announcing the
formation of a Master Diver Class. In our opinions, the Master Diver
Class is the pinnacle of recreational diving. This is the final course in
the recreational branch of the NAUI Training Progression. You will
sharpen your watermanship skills, as well as learn about complex topics
in Diving Environment, Diving Physics, Diving Physiology, and
Decompression Theory. At the end of this course, you should have the
diving skills and knowledge equivalent to that of an instructor (note
we do not discuss educational theory in this class, that is discussed
in the Assistant Instructor course which will be offered this spring).
The class consists of a textbook
with accompanying DVD, approximately six classroom and pool sessions,
and a minimum of eight open water dives. The cost is $200 and you will
be issued a NAUI Master Diver certification card upon successful
completion of the course.
Prerequisites are Advanced
Diver (either PADI or NAUI) and a desire to become the best diver you
can be.

Dive Log by Lary Harrington

Our January club meeting
was replaced with our annual Awards Party. Everyone seemed to enjoy the
party, as we had plenty of food and the room was satisfactory. I want to congratulate the
winners - Larry Dickinson and Van Simms won the awards
for members who contributed significantly to the TDC success in
2007. In addition, we
presented awards to those voted the best cooks for 2007's lake dives
and those winners were Dick and Gail Bell
and Bobette and Larry Brasfield. Congratulations to each of these
winners and to all those who were nominated. I also want to thank those whose
efforts made the party a success- Jeff and Cherry Urch
for getting the location for the party and the food and to Tammy
and Gerry Padgett for getting the door prizes to the party and
those that helped with getting the membership cards out to our members.
I also want to thank Jim
Mularkey for his service as our equipment manager. He is stepping
down as the equipment manager this year but will, of course, remain an
active club member. Jim has put in many hours of work for the club and
deserves a well-earned rest. I also want to thank Jim and Gerry
Padgett for all their work in refurbishing and selling the
used equipment previously donated to the club -the proceeds from those
sales are a big reason that the club begins 2008 in sound financial
condition.
We are also getting the equipment
ready for the 2008 dive season - 24 tanks have already had the
hydrostatic inspection competed for 2008. We will also be checking out
other gear including the BC's and the compressors. We are also underway
with our Discover Scuba classes and Family Scuba nights. Please come by
for the Family Scuba nights to check out any new 'toys' Santa might
have left under your tree - or, it's just a good way to ensure all your
gear is in good working condition for the upcoming dive season.
Again, I look forward to
my term as your President and remember, my cell phone is 972-989-9809
and my email address is LRH666@aol.com if you want to contact me
for any reason. Have fun
and always practice safe diving.

Training New & Notes by Larry Dickinson
|
|
|
|
We're one month into the New
Year and it won't be long until it will be warm enough to dive around
here. Keeping your skills
and equipment in good working order through the winter months can be difficult
- but fortunately the club has a solution. The pool will be open on the
second and third Wednesdays of each month (February through April) for
Family Pool Nights. This is
a great opportunity to get in the water and blow some bubbles with your
diving buddies. In order to
insure that we have enough help in the club room we are asking anyone
who is planning to attend a Family Pool Night to register so that we
will know that you are coming.
Just go to the club's web site (www.texinsdiveclub.org), then click on the "Training" link at
the top and then select the "Family Pool Night" registration
link. Note that the club room
will only be open if we know that you are coming!!!
I have finally finished up the
material for the Buoyancy Control workshop that has been discussed at
the last several club events.
The workshop will be held on Monday night, February 25 at the Dallas Texins Activity
Center. We will meet ~6pm for a short
classroom discussion and then go to the pool and work through several
buoyancy skills. Due to
pool area limitations I would like to limit the number of students to
eight for this session (additional sessions can be scheduled if there
is enough interest). If you
are interested in working on your buoyancy skills then sign up for this
*FREE* workshop by contacting our Training Registrar, Jimmy Dominguez,
at TDCRegsitrar@texinsdiveclub.com.
Finally, if you know of anyone
who is curious about scuba then why not have them to sign up for one of
our *FREE* Discover Scuba classes?
Sessions are scheduled through April and anyone (10 and older)
can sign up by visiting the "Training" page on our web
site. These classes, which
are taught by experienced dive professionals, are a great opportunity
to experience the underwater world. Help us promote scuba diving by
mentioning our Discover Scuba class to all your friends and relatives!
Happy and Safe diving to all!
