President's Dive Log by Lary Harrington

The 2008 dive season is getting closer and closer. (YEA!) Training Director Larry Dickinson recently had a meeting with his training staff and it looks as though things are coming together for the upcoming dive season. As many of you know, Gerry Padgett is home recovering from surgery and will miss this year's training classes. Of course, we all wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he returns to the club and to diving as soon as possible.

As I mentioned previously, the Club's tanks that required a hydrostatic test this year have now had all those tests completed and, thanks in large part to Paul Carter, almost all of those tanks have also had the VIP tests completed. Several club members have brought their personal tanks in to have a hydrostatic test completed and those will be taken to the testing company within a few days. If you need to have your tank tested and have not gotten it to the equipment room, please have the tanks delivered by Friday April 11th. If you need a VIP inspection, please bring your tanks in as soon as possible.

The Board approved the purchase of a Club banner at our April meeting and it should be available prior to the start of our lake dives. I think it will be great advertising for the Club. We are also considering the purchase of a smaller banner; this will be discussed at the April Club meeting before a final decision is made by the Board.

I am looking forward to seeing you at our April 8th club meeting.  Our May Board meeting will be held Thursday May 1st (note the early date as the first Thursday is May 1st) - members are always welcome at that meeting as well. If you need to reach me for any reason, my email address is LRH666@aol.com and my cell phone number is 972-989-9809.

Master Diver Class Now Forming

Brian Schmidt and Don Dapkus are announcing the formation of a Master Diver Class. In our opinions, the Master Diver Class is the pinnacle of recreational diving. This is the final course in the recreational branch of the NAUI Training Progression. You will sharpen your watermanship skills, as well as learn about complex topics in Diving Environment, Diving Physics, Diving Physiology, and Decompression Theory. At the end of this course, you should have the diving skills and knowledge equivalent to that of an instructor.  NAUI Master Diver is $200 and consists of:

*textbook with accompanying DVD  *approx 6 classroom sessions *8 open water dives

Prerequisites: Advanced Diver (either PADI or NAUI) and a desire to become the best diver you can be.
