each contestant to the buoy to determine the winner in case of a tie.
8.5.4
Two-Buoy Compass
Run

buoy, with the course moving in a clockwise direction from the start pole. If conditions permit, this should make the
finishing leg perpendicular to the shore.
8.5.4.2

calculate the appropriate compass headings needed for the course before the
contest begins without any assistance.

striker with which to make a sound when the contestant reaches a distance of
approximately 40 feet from the start pole.
8.5.5.2
The contestant must swim in
the general direction of the “noise maker” on a calculated compass heading,
counting their fin strokes, until they hear a ring from the “noise maker”. The contestant will then make a 90-degree
turn in a clockwise direction and swim the number of fin strokes counted in the
first leg. The contestant will then
make a 90-degree turn in a clockwise direction and swim the number of fin
strokes as before. The contestant will
then make a final 90-degree turn in a clockwise direction and swim the number
of fin strokes to the finish pole. This

winner. The token with the highest
number will determine the winner in case of a tie.
