8.5.1.3             The time of the run will be the tiebreaker.

8.5.2           Square Compass Run

8.5.2.1             The starting pole and finish pole must be at least 50 feet apart on or near the shoreline.

8.5.2.2             The contestant will be allowed to swim from the start pole to the finish pole one time before the contest begins to determine distance in fin strokes.

8.5.2.3             The Contestant will swim straight out from the start pole for at least 25 strokes then make a 90-degree turn in a clockwise direction.  The contestant will then swim the number of strokes he estimated between the start pole and finish pole and make another 90 degree, clockwise turn.  The contestant will then swim to the finish pole. The contestant that finishes closest to the finish pole is the winner.

8.5.2.4             The time of the run will be the tiebreaker.

8.5.3           1-Buoy Compass Run

8.5.3.2             Each contestant should calculate the appropriate compass headings needed for the course before the contest begins without any assistance.

8.5.3.3             The contestant will begin at the start pole and swim to the buoy while being timed by the coordinator.  Upon reaching the buoy the contestant will tug on the buoy line to indicate that the buoy has been reached and stop the clock.

8.5.3.4             If a contestant misses the buoy by more than 15 feet the safety diver will notify the contestant that they have been disqualified.

8.5.3.5             The contestant will turn in a clockwise direction to the final compass heading and swim to the finish pole.  The contestant that finishes closest to the finish pole is determined the winner of the event.

8.5.3.6             The coordinator will time each contestant to the buoy to determine the winner in case of a tie.

8.5.4           Two-Buoy Compass Run

8.5.4.1             A course is set up to form an approximate 90-degree triangle, with the 90-degree angle being at a second buoy, with the course moving in a clockwise direction from the start pole.  If conditions permit, this should make the finishing leg perpendicular to the shore.

8.5.4.2             Each contestant should calculate the appropriate compass headings needed for the course before the contest begins without any assistance.

8.5.4.3             The contestant will begin at the start pole and swim to the first buoy while being timed by the coordinator.  Upon reaching the buoy the contestant will tug on the buoy line to indicate that the buoy has been reached and stop the clock.

8.5.4.4             If a contestant misses the buoy by more than 25 feet the safety diver will notify the contestant that they have been disqualified.

8.5.4.5             The contestant will turn in a clockwise direction to the second compass heading and swim to the second buoy.  Upon reaching the buoy the contestant will tug on the buoy line to indicate that the buoy has been reached.

8.5.4.6             If a contestant misses the buoy by more than 15 feet the safety diver will notify the contestant that they have been disqualified.

8.5.4.7             The contestant will turn in a clockwise direction to the final compass heading and swim to the finish pole. The contestant that finishes closest to the finish pole is determined the winner of the event.

8.5.5.2             The contestant must swim in the general direction of the “noise maker” on a calculated compass heading, counting their fin strokes, until they hear a ring from the “noise maker”.  The contestant will then make a 90-degree turn in a clockwise direction and swim the number of fin strokes counted in the first leg.  The contestant will then make a 90-degree turn in a clockwise direction and swim the number of fin strokes as before.  The contestant will then make a final 90-degree turn in a clockwise direction and swim the number of fin strokes to the finish pole.  This should put the contestant back where they started. The contestant that finishes closest to the finish pole is determined the winner of the event.

8.5.5.3             The coordinator will time each contestant from start to finish to determine winner in case of a tie.

8.5.6           Treasure Hunt

8.5.6.1             The coordinator will make sure there are at least 60 tokens but not more than 150 tokens consecutively numbered.  Having selected an area with depths not greater than 35 feet, and not less than 40 yards and not more that 70 yards in size, the tokens will be distributed into the water by two or more people, not contestants, as evenly as possible.  The coordinator will make sure at least three dive flags have been placed in the area for safety.

8.5.6.4             All contestants shall start abreast at he beginning of the contest and wait for a signal from the coordinator before entering the water.  Upon receiving the signal, as determined by the coordinator, each contestant will swim into the water to collect as many tokens as possible within the allotted time.  The contestant with most tokens at the end of the contest will be determined the winner.  The token with the highest number will determine the winner in case of a tie.

8.5.7.1             The coordinator will provide a list of items to be collect during the scavenge hunt at the scheduled sign up time.
